Welcome to Beyond Features!

I've been thinking about marketing to technical audiences for years—developers, security teams, infrastructure buyers. The people who see through traditional B2B playbooks and tired of defining themselves as B2D, B2B2D, or any other acronym.

I soft launched Beyond Features in December 2025 with a panel that tackled understanding who owns "Developer Marketing": DevRel or Marketing? I brought together four incredible panelists to talk about what makes developer marketing different—and why traditional B2B playbooks fail with technical audiences.

Now, I'm formally launching Beyond Features—a content hub focused exclusively on technical marketing.

What is Technical Marketing?

Technical marketing is the specialized discipline of marketing technical products to technical audiences. Unlike traditional B2B marketing, technical marketing requires:

  • Product-led strategies - Developers expect to try before buying, no sales calls
  • Community-driven growth - Word-of-mouth and developer communities drive adoption
  • Documentation-first approach - Your docs are your marketing materials
  • Technical accuracy - One wrong code example can destroy trust
  • Deep understanding of developer workflows - How developers actually work, not how marketers think they work

Traditional marketing focuses on business value, ROI, and executive decision-makers. Technical marketing focuses on developer experience, technical capabilities, and ease of integration.
